The first special Canadian report

Welcome to Corporate Secretary magazine’s first special Canadian report. As North American financial markets become more integrated and global challenges become more prevalent, Canadian corporations face unique complications that make the need for information and support even more pressing. With governance and compliance developments continuing apace in Canada we are dedicating this section to addressing topics of concern to corporate secretaries, compliance officers and governance professionals at public companies operating in Canada.
Corporate Secretary is the only official magazine provided as a benefit to members of the Canadian Society of Corporate Secretaries (CSCS), the leading professional membership organization for corporate secretaries and governance practitioners in Canada. This year’s annual conference, which takes place in Victoria, BC, is the centerpiece of membership programming and will see over 250 attendees gather to share professional experiences and discuss industry-leading best practices in the field of governance.
For this special coverage, which will become a regular feature, Corporate Secretary is partnering with CSCS to present a diverse range of topics reviewed by a variety of industry leaders. This issue provides in-depth discussions on IFRS convergence; proxy voting, shareholder rights and National Instruments 54-101 and 54-102; and corporate social responsibility reporting. It also features a personal conversation with Stephen Griggs, the new managing director of the Canadian Coalition for Good Governance, and other members of his team, as well as interviews with a number of the winners of the Conference Board of Canada and Spencer Stuart National Awards in Governance.
According to CSCS president Sylvia Groves, ‘If you are working in any governance-related function at a Canadian company, these articles and the member benefits available through CSCS are invaluable tools for you to perform
at the highest level within your organization.’
