New developments at PNC Financial Services Group, Northrup Grumman, Vail Resorts, Glatfelter and more.
1) The PNC Financial Services Group, recently appointed Gregory Jordan general counsel and head of regulatory and government affairs. He has also been named to the company’s executive committee. Jordan joins PNC from the Reed Smith law firm, where he was global managing partner and chairman of the senior management team and executive committee.
Jordan joined Reed Smith after graduating from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law in 1984, and he was elected the firm's managing partner five times. In 13 years of leading Reed Smith, he helped quadruple its size to 1,800 lawyers in 25 offices on three continents, and positioned it as a model among law firms for professional development, diversity and strong client relationships. In 2012, Law 360 named him one of the Ten Most Innovative Managing Partners.
He serves on the boards of Highmark Inc., the Allegheny Conference on Community Development, the Global Business Coalition on Education, and the Extra Mile Foundation. He is chairman of the Board of Trustees of Bethany College, from which he received his bachelor's degree.
2) Maureen Del Duca has been named vice president and deputy general counsel, Litigation and Investigations, Northrop Grumman Corporation.
In this role, Del Duca will be responsible for leading and managing the company's top quality internal team, and overseeing outside counsel for litigation, arbitration and investigations.
Del Duca joins Northrop Grumman from her former position at AOL, where she was senior vice president and deputy general counsel, litigation, and chief ethics and compliance officer. Prior to joining AOL, Del Duca managed litigation for MCI and then Marriott International. She also served as chief of the investigations and hearings division of the enforcement bureau at the Federal Communications Commission. Prior to moving in house, Del Duca was a litigation partner in private practice at Jenner & Block.
3) Intarcia Therapeutics recently announced the appointment of Raymond Keane to the position of vice president, general counsel and chief legal officer. In this newly created position, Keane will report directly to Kurt Graves, Intarcia chairman, president, and CEO. In his new role, Keane will play an important part in the growth and development of the company as an integrated biopharmaceutical enterprise, and specifically in the company's efforts to advance its lead candidate through the FREEDOM Phase 3 clinical trial program and on toward global commercialization in type 2 diabetes.
Throughout his career, Keane has participated in the global launch of eight small molecule and biologic therapies, has led corporate diligence that resulted in raising more than $700 million, and has built both U.S. and European legal groups from the ground up. He also provided legal leadership throughout the evolution of ARIAD Pharmaceuticals from a research and development platform to a fully integrated global commercial organization, and worked his way up to being Chief Counsel to the head of global marketing at Bristol-Myers Squibb.
Before joining Intarcia, Keane served as senior vice president, general counsel, secretary, and chief compliance officer of ARIAD Pharmaceuticals. Prior to ARIAD, he contributed for 20 years at levels of increasing responsibility at Bristol-Myers Squibb Company (BMS). His tenure at BMS began as an assistant counsel in corporate litigation and ultimately ascended to senior counsel, worldwide medicine, where he had legal responsibility for the global commercialization of three new drugs/biologics and legal oversight of global marketing strategy, launch campaigns, corporate communications, healthcare professional interactions, and worldwide strategic development. Before joining BMS, Keane was an associate with the law firm of Wilson, Elser, Moskowitz, Edelman & Dicker, and was also an associate with Martin, Clearwater and Bell.
4) Vail Resorts, the leading mountain resort operator in the United States, announced the hiring of Randall Mehrberg as executive vice president and general counsel.
Since 2008, Mehrberg has been the executive vice president of strategy and development for Public Service Enterprise Group and president of PSEG Energy Holdings, which develops, manages and owns renewable energy solutions. Prior to his role at PSEG, Mehrberg was general counsel for eight years at Exelon Corporation, during which time he also held roles as head of corporate strategy and development and chief administrative officer. Prior to Exelon, Mehrberg was partner at Jenner & Block, and from 1993 to 1997 he was the lakefront director and general counsel of the City of Chicago Park District.
5) Sealed Air, a global leader in food safety and security, facility hygiene and product protection, recently appointed Norman Finch Jr. as vice president, general counsel and secretary. Previously, Finch worked as the vice president, associate general counsel and chief compliance officer for Zimmer Holdings, a medical device company.
6) Stephen Godsell has been appointed as group general counsel and company secretary of the PA Group, the parent company of the Press Association (PA) and MeteoGroup, the national news agency of the UK and Ireland.
Godsell joins the organization with over 10 years' legal experience in the media, technology and publishing sectors, having spent the last six years at The Economist Group, most recently as its senior legal counsel, which he joined from Clifford Chance. Godsell will head PA Group's legal team based in the company's headquarters in Victoria and will have overall responsibility for all legal and company secretarial matters.
Godsell is also a trustee of The Economist Educational Foundation and a member of the Society for Computers and Law, The Intellectual Property Lawyers' Organisation and The Royal Photographic Society.
7) Glatfelter, a global manufacturer of specialty papers and fiber-based engineered materials, recently announced the promotion of Kent Matsumoto to vice president, general counsel, and corporate secretary. In this capacity, he will report directly to Dante Parrini, chairman and chief executive officer.
Matsumoto brings 28 years of diverse and global corporate, legal, and trade association experience to his assignment. He joined Glatfelter in June 2012 as assistant general counsel and quickly assumed the role as chief compliance officer as well as various assistant secretarial responsibilities. In March 2013, he was appointed interim general counsel for the company.
Prior to working at Glatfelter, Matsumoto served in a variety of corporate and divisional leadership assignments with firms such as Wolters Kluwer, Mayne Pharma, Alpharma, and the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America. He also has worked for the Baltimore legal firms of Semes, Bowen, and Semes as well as Ober, Kaler, Grimes, & Shriver.
8) Kimball International, a provider of engineering and manufacturing services and furniture for the office and hospitality industries, recently announced the promotion and appointment of Julia Heitz-Cassidy to the position of vice president, deputy general counsel.
In her new role, Heitz-Cassidy will continue with her responsibility for the overall operations of Kimball’s legal group, as well as providing strategic thought leadership, advice and counseling to Kimball International’s executive management.
Heitz-Cassidy, joined Kimball’s corporate legal department in 1996 as an associate corporate counsel and has served in various roles of increasing responsibilities during her career with Kimball.
9) Rally Software, a leading global provider of cloud-based solutions for managing Agile software development, recently appointed David Huberman as general counsel. In this role, he will lead Rally's worldwide legal affairs, including corporate transactions, licensing, intellectual property, general corporate matters, governance and compliance.
Huberman brings to Rally more than 15 years of experience negotiating complex transactions, forging strategic relationships, and handling a broad range of legal and regulatory matters in both private and public company settings. Most recently, he served as general counsel and corporate secretary at Webroot, a leading global provider of cloud-based Internet security and security intelligence solutions for consumers and enterprises. Prior to Webroot, he was assistant general counsel at Intrado, a leading provider of emergency communication services and technology.
Prior to joining Intrado, Huberman was an attorney with the Washington D.C. firm Wiley, Rein & Fielding.
10) Summit Materials, a building materials manufacturer and construction services provider, recently announced the appointment of Anne Benedict as chief legal officer. Prior to joining Summit, Benedict was a partner in the Washington, D.C. office of global law firm Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher, where her practice involved a wide range of corporate law matters, including mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures and other strategic transactions, securities offerings, securities regulation and disclosure issues, and corporate governance matters.
