Lucy Fato joins Nardello as general counsel

She will oversee work for clients throughout NorthAmerica and South America from investigation firm's New York headquarters

This week the global investigations firm Nardello & Company appointed Lucy Fato managing director, head of the Americas and global general counsel, starting October 11. During her more than 25 years of experience in the legal, compliance, regulatory and corporate governance arena, Fato has advised corporations, financial institutions and boards of directors on a variety of governance issues. Nardello & Company’s clients, which comprise legal and compliance teams and boards of directors of publicly listed multinational firms, will benefit from her expertise.

Most recently Fato served as executive vice president and general counsel of McGraw-Hill Financial (now known as S&P Global). While there she favorably resolved litigation resulting from the financial crisis and other regulatory matters brought by the US Department of Justice, multiple State Attorneys General and the SEC. Before that, she was deputy general counsel and corporate secretary at Marsh & McLennan Companies, overseeing SEC/NYSE compliance, privacy, trade sanctions, e-discovery and capital markets and corporate finance transactions.

Fato’s legal career started in 1991 at Davis Polk & Wardwell, where for five of her 14 years she was a partner in the Capital Markets Group. She graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Pittsburgh with a Bachelors in business and economics and went on to earn a law degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law. She is admitted to practice law in New York and California.

In addition, Fato serves on the Board of Trustees of the Randall’s Island Park Alliance (RIPA), a non-profit organization that works with the City of New York and local communities to maintain the park for the wellbeing of all New Yorkers. She was was RIPA's business honoree in 2015 and was also named as one of Ethisphere Magazine’s ‘2015 Attorneys Who Matter’ for her dedication to furthering corporate ethics.
