Eastern Platinum appoints corporate secretary

Rowland Wallenius will also be CFO

Eastern Platinum (Eastplats) has appointed Rowland Wallenius as its CFO and corporate secretary.

Wallenius, a certified professional accountant, joined Eastplats on November 23 following a 20-year career in private accounting and audit practice, during which he has held senior management and consulting positions with several public mining and industrial companies.

In his new role, Wallenius will be based in Vancouver, British Columbia, but will also travel to South Africa, where Eastplats has opened a new mine. ‘I’m excited to be working with the new team in South Africa,’ he says.

From 2007 to 2014, Wallenius served as CFO of Mexico’s El Boleo copper project, constructed by Baja Mining Corp and a group led by Korea Resources Corporation. Before that, he acted in a variety of accounting and finance roles with Augusta Resource Corporation, Sargold Resource Corporation and other public issuers.

According to an Eastplats statement, Wallenius has had extensive experience in public company accounting and reporting as well as project finance, treasury management, project development and construction, risk management, investor relations and corporate development.

‘We are grateful to David Li for his efforts as our interim CFO in helping us through our transition over the last few months and building the foundation for our future plans,’ says Eastplats CEO Diana Hu in a statement. She did not respond to a request for further comment, and phone messages left at the company’s headquarters were not answered.
