PulteGroup has hired Todd Sheldon as the Atlanta-based company’s new executive vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary.

Sheldon starts in his new role today, reporting to CEO Ryan Marshall. He will be responsible for all of PulteGroup’s legal activities including public company filings, financial transactions, litigation and M&A. He succeeds Steve Cook, who recently retired after a decade-long career at PulteGroup, according to the company.

Sheldon was previously at Americold, where he served as executive vice president and general counsel responsible for legal department and administrative functions including real estate, M&A and risk management. Americold, which is also based in Atlanta, offers temperature-controlled warehousing, transportation and logistics services to the food industry. An Americold spokesperson did not respond immediately to a request for comment.

PulteGroup describes itself as one of the largest US homebuilding companies with brands including Centex, Pulte Homes, Del Webb, DiVosta Homes and John Wieland Homes and Neighborhoods.

Earlier in his career, Sheldon served as executive vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary of SUPERVALU, and as vice president and senior legal counsel for Medtronic Spine, a division of Medtronic, according to PulteGroup. Before moving in-house, he worked with law firms Chapman & Cutler and Fagel Haber.

‘Todd has an outstanding business and academic background, and a demonstrated track record leading the legal and related functions for public companies,’ Marshall says in a statement.
