W&T Offshore has appointed Shahid Ghauri as its new vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary.

Ghauri is based in Houston and reports to Tracy Krohn, W&T’s CEO and president. He joined the energy company last month as successor to Thomas Getten, who has retired, according to W&T.

Previously, Ghauri was a partner with law firm Jones Walker, where he focused primarily on business and commercial transactions in the oil and gas industry. Before that, he was the assistant general counsel of BHP Billiton Petroleum, where he managed the legal team responsible for ‘unconventional resource plays,’ W&T says.

W&T is an independent oil and natural gas producer with operations in the Gulf of Mexico. The company at present has working interests in roughly 52 fields in federal and state waters and has under lease around 750,000 gross acres.

‘We appreciate Tom’s guidance and dedication to W&T since he joined the company in 2006,’ Krohn says in a statement. ‘We wish him the best in his well-deserved retirement. We also welcome Shahid Ghauri to the W&T team and believe he will be a great asset to the company.’

Josh Norris, who heads the Jones Walker energy team in Houston and is member of the firm’s board of directors, says: ‘Although we hated to lose him, we are excited for Shahid and his move to W&T. We look forward to working with him in the future and know he will be a great asset to W&T, as he was to Jones Walker.’
