BMG has promoted Keith Hauprich to general counsel and senior vice president of business and legal affairs for North America. Based in New York, Hauprich, who took up his new role last week, reports directly to Zach Katz, the music company’s US president for repertoire and marketing. A spokesperson did not have an immediate comment on the previous holder of the post or his new role.

Hauprich previously served as deputy general counsel at BMG. According to the firm, he has been the driving force behind a number of significant deals, particularly in film and television music publishing, securing the music publishing rights to major entertainment business entities including AMC Networks, Activision/Blizzard Studios, Hasbro Studios and Netflix.

Earlier in his career, Hauprich served as general counsel for Cherry Lane Music Publishing Company before its acquisition by BMG in April 2010.

‘The role of general counsel has a particular resonance at BMG, helping drive revenue, fighting the corner of artists and songwriters against external threats like piracy, and ensuring we treat our clients in as equitable a way as possible. I am delighted Keith has agreed to take on this role,’ Katz says in a statement.
