Data analysis firm Splunk has promoted Leonard Stein to senior vice president of corporate affairs and chief legal officer (CLO) and Scott Morgan to vice president and general counsel. They are now sharing the role of corporate secretary.

Stein joined Splunk in 2011 as senior vice president, general counsel and secretary. Before that, he held a variety of leadership and legal roles at Jackson Family Enterprises between 2004 and 2010, including CLO, senior vice president and general counsel. He has also held legal roles at QRS Corporation, Buzzsaw.com and Preview Travel. He started his career as an associate at law firm Covington & Burling.

Morgan has been at Splunk since 2012, and most recently served as vice president, associate general counsel and assistant secretary. Between 2007 and February 2012, he worked for AutoDesk as senior director of securities and M&A counsel. He has also worked for Tellabs and Morrison & Foerster, where he started his career.

The promotions are part of a broader reshuffle of Splunk’s in-house legal department that will enable Stein to focus more on public and government affairs while Morgan takes on responsibility for the legal team. Morgan says the reorganization will also enable Splunk’s lawyers to cope with the company’s continued growth and enable them to join cross-functional teams that are tasked with new company projects.

‘The business is growing so rapidly,’ Morgan tells Corporate Secretary. ‘The demands that existed just a couple of years ago have radically changed, both in terms of technology in how we’re serving our customers and how we’re organizing the business. The changes in the legal department reflect that.’

Splunk was named governance team of the year (small to mid-cap) at Corporate Secretary’s 2016 Corporate Governance Awards.
