Hitachi Data Systems Federal (HDS Federal), a wholly owned subsidiary of HDS, has recruited David Funk as its new general counsel and corporate secretary. He works out of the firm’s Reston, Virginia office.

In his new role, Funk oversees and manages the company’s legal, contractual and industrial security compliance activities. He reports directly to president and CEO David Turner, and succeeds Monica DeNeale, who was recently named vice president and Americas general counsel for HDS, according to the company.

HDS Federal provides data services to the federal government. According to the firm, it offers pathways to the cloud and converged IT systems through virtualization and storage with the aim of reducing IT complexity and increasing the efficiency of the US government.

Before joining HDS Federal, Funk served as general counsel and director of contracts for Govplace, a government technology firm. Earlier in his career he held senior roles within the federal government including attorney adviser with the US Department of Homeland Security and senior adviser with the US Department of State.

‘David brings a wealth of legal expertise across multiple facets of corporate law and government contracting to HDS Federal,’ Turner says in a statement.
