Leidos has hired Jerald Howe as executive vice president and general counsel. Howe will join the company on July 10 and report to chair and CEO Roger Krone.

Effective July 15, Vincent Maffeo will retire as executive vice president and general counsel of Leidos. Maffeo provided guidance and legal expertise on matters such as the separation of the then-titled Science Applications International Corporation and the recent merger with Lockheed Martin’s information systems & global solutions business, according to the company. He will continue to advise Leidos as a consultant.

Leidos is a science and technology company working in the defense, intelligence, homeland security, civil and health markets. It is based in Reston, Virginia and reported annual revenues of roughly $7.04 billion for the fiscal year ended December 30, 2016, according to the firm.

Howe will join Leidos having previously been a partner with Fried Frank Harris Shriver & Jacobson in Washington, DC. His practice has focused on advising clients in government contracts litigation, investigations and bid protests, in addition to M&A and private equity transactions in the aerospace and defense industry. In a statement, the law firm’s chair David Greenwald says: ‘We appreciate Jerry’s many contributions during his time at Fried Frank, wish him well, and look forward to continuing to work with him in his new role.’

Before joining Fried Frank, Howe served as senior vice president and general counsel at aerospace and defense firm TASC, where he oversaw the company’s legal affairs, corporate development and M&A, ethics and compliance programs, government relations and security. Previously, he was owner and principal of consulting firm InSequitur, executive vice president of the Olive Group, and senior vice president & general counsel of Veridian Corporation.

‘Jerry is an accomplished legal mind and a proven leader who brings substantial expertise in the aerospace, defense and intelligence sectors,’ Krone says in a statement. ‘His broad skill-set and keen understanding of the federal contracting arena will be an ideal addition to our talented leadership team.

‘Vince provided the strong leadership Leidos needed through several key transitions that enabled the company to grow to the global science and technology leader it is today. We thank him for his outstanding service and dedication to Leidos, and wish him well in his retirement.’
