Zynga appoints CLO

Phuong Phillips previously worked at Tesla

Zynga has recruited Phuong Phillips as its chief legal officer (CLO), effective last week.

In her new role, Phillips oversees legal affairs and government relations for the company, which creates online and mobile-based games such as FarmVille, Zynga Poker and Words With Friends, reporting directly to CEO Frank Gibeau.

Phillips previously served as associate general counsel at Tesla, where she managed the post-acquisition integrations of SolarCity and Grohmann Engineering, according to Zynga. Before that, she spent more than six years at SolarCity, as vice president, deputy general counsel and head of corporate and securities, advising on matters including M&A, board and corporate governance, securities offerings and compliance, SEC reporting and internal policies. She also served as the lead attorney for SolarCity during its 2016 acquisition by Tesla.

A request for comment from Tesla was not returned immediately.

Before joining SolarCity, Phillips worked at law firm Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati, where she represented technology and emerging growth companies on corporate governance, public reporting, securities laws, venture and private equity financing, M&A and initial public offerings.

‘I’m excited to welcome Phuong to Zynga,’ Gibeau says in a statement. ‘She has a proven track record of navigating complex and evolving industries, while working closely with teams to drive positive business outcomes. We look forward to bringing Phuong’s experience across corporate affairs, [M&A] and governance to Zynga’s legal team.’
