Carestream promotes attorney to general counsel

Julie Lewis was also chief privacy officer

Rochester, New York-based Carestream Health has promoted Julie Lewis to become general counsel and corporate secretary, leading the company’s worldwide legal organization. She replaces Joseph Ruh, who has retired, and reports to chief administrative officer Barry Canipe.

Lewis was previously deputy general counsel and chief privacy officer for Carestream, serving as the company’s lead attorney for its medical film and dental businesses, along with overseeing the company’s global litigation proceedings. As chief privacy officer, she oversaw the program to achieve compliance with the EU’s General Data Protection Regulation. She is based in Atlanta.

Before joining Carestream, Lewis was a partner in the commercial litigation department of Harris Beach. Prior to that she was an assistant district attorney in Monroe County, New York, prosecuting violent felony cases.

Carestream provides medical imaging systems and IT services, including X-ray imaging systems for non-destructive testing and advanced materials for precision films and electronics. It has been a subsidiary of Onex, one of Canada’s largest companies, since 2007.
