TopBuild brings new general counsel on board

Donald Walther previously worked at Esterline Corporation

Donald Walther joined Daytona Beach, Florida-based TopBuild Corp as general counsel and corporate secretary on May 6. He reports to CEO Jerry Volas.

Walther previously served as executive vice president and general counsel for aerospace and defense industry supplier Esterline Corporation. Before that, he was executive vice president and general counsel at The Heico Companies, a parent holding company for a range of manufacturing, construction and industrial services businesses.

During his career Walther has also worked as deputy general counsel for ITT Corporation and as counsel for Boeing, and was a partner with Perkins Coie.

Michelle Friel was the company’s previous general counsel, according to a spokesperson. Friel left TopBuild in May 2017 to become founder and CEO of GIRSA Group, which focuses on helping ‘emergent and renewal companies navigate governance evolution and challenge environments,’ according to her LinkedIn profile.

Joe Jacumin, assistant general counsel, has held the general counsel role at TopBuild in the interim, the spokesperson adds.

Volas says in a statement: ‘We are pleased to welcome Don to TopBuild. He brings more than 25 years of experience to his new role, with extensive experience leading legal and compliance functions across a wide range of industries. He is a terrific addition to our senior leadership team.’

NYSE-listed TopBuild describes itself as a leading installer and distributor of insulation and building material products.
