Menlo Park, California-based GRAIL has hired Marissa Song as general counsel and corporate secretary, overseeing the healthcare company’s legal and corporate compliance functions.

Song succeeds Patrick Broderick who has retired, according to a spokesperson. She reports to GRAIL CEO Hans Bishop.

Song previously worked at biopharmaceutical company Gilead Sciences for more than 14 years. Her most recent position was vice president of corporate legal, leading the corporate governance and SEC reporting group and teams supporting the company’s finance, human resources, privacy and information governance, product development and manufacturing, global facilities and clinical trials teams.

Before joining Gilead, Song was an associate at law firm Latham & Watkins, advising clients on M&A.

‘We are very pleased to welcome Marissa, who brings extensive industry experience and a proven track record in corporate governance, SEC compliance and product development to the role of general counsel and corporate secretary,’ Bishop says in a statement. ‘In our journey to achieve something that is truly transformational, Marissa will be a great asset as we navigate critical milestones to advance our multi-cancer early detection test toward commercialization.’
