HP appoints next legal chief

Harvey Anderson to take on new role in February

HP has appointed Harvey Anderson, the company’s general counsel, as chief legal officer (CLO) and corporate secretary, effective February 1.

He will join the company’s executive leadership team and report to HP president and CEO Enrique Lores.

Anderson’s promotion follows the decision of Kim Rivera, president of strategy and business management and current CLO, to leave HP after a five-year tenure with the company. Rivera will be a special adviser to Lores and the company until the end of 2021 to help with the transition.

Anderson joined HP in 2017 as deputy general counsel for the company’s personal systems and 3D printing business units. Before coming to the company he was CLO at software security provider AVG Technologies. He has held senior legal roles at Mozilla Corporation, SEVEN Networks and Netscape/AOL, and has experience in public policy, regulatory compliance, corporate and commercial transactions and IP litigation.

In her current role, Rivera leads HP’s corporate strategy and development, indirect procurement, customer support and real estate and workplace functions. She also oversees the company’s global legal organization, including legal and government affairs, brand security, compliance and ethics.

Before joining HP, she was the CLO and corporate secretary for DaVita HealthCare Partners. Before that she was the chief compliance officer and head of international legal services at The Clorox Company. Earlier in her career she was chief litigation counsel for Rockwell Automation and general counsel for its automation controls and information group.

Rivera was appointed to the Thomson Reuters board in 2019 and is a member of its audit committee.

‘Kim has been integral to HP’s success since our early days as a stand-alone company in 2015,’ Lores says in a statement. ‘Her business acumen, legal prowess and purpose-driven leadership have made a huge impact and built a deep bench of leaders across her teams. We will benefit from her contributions for many years to come.

‘I am delighted to welcome Harvey to the HP executive leadership team. His wise counsel, sound judgment and strategic acuity will continue to serve us well as we deliver on our strategic priorities.’
