Spirit AeroSystems looks in-house for next general counsel

Mindy McPheeters has been with the company for six years

NYSE-listed Spirit AeroSystems has promoted Mindy McPheeters to the position of senior vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary, effective March 11. She reports directly to president and CEO Tom Gentile.

McPheeters had been serving as interim general counsel, having previously been vice president and deputy general counsel for the company.

Stacy Lancaster Cozad was senior vice president, general counsel, chief compliance officer and corporate secretary at Spirit AeroSystems from January 2016 until joining Ingevity Corporation as executive vice president, general counsel and secretary at the start of February this year. She succeeded Katherine Burgeson, who retired from Ingevity in August last year.

During her six years at Spirit, McPheeters has held positions overseeing various aspects of the company’s legal team, including litigation, commercial, employment and compliance. Before joining the company, she was in-house counsel for Delta Dental of Kansas.

Spirit AeroSystems builds aerostructures for commercial airplanes, defense platforms and business or regional jets.

‘Mindy has gained an understanding of the many facets of our business and our industry during her tenure with the company,’ Gentile says in a statement. ‘I look forward to her contributions as a member of our executive leadership team as we continue to transform Spirit into a more diversified company.’
