NetApp general counsel takes on CLO role

Tech company splits legal and strategy positions

Nasdaq-listed tech company NetApp has promoted Elizabeth O’Callahan to the position of chief legal officer and general counsel.

She was previously senior vice president and general counsel, reporting to Matt Fawcett in his role as chief strategy and legal officer.

NetApp says in announcing the change: ‘Given the company’s strong growth trajectory, NetApp is decoupling its strategy and legal teams, enabling Fawcett to have a dedicated focus on accelerating the next phase of NetApp’s evolution as chief strategy officer.’ O’Callahan and Fawcett now report to NetApp CEO George Kurian.

O’Callahan is also NetApp’s corporate secretary and chief compliance officer. Before joining NetApp in 2013, she held a senior legal position at Xilinx, and began her legal career in private practice specializing in advising clients on corporate law and business litigation.

Fawcett says in a statement: ‘When Beth joined the team eight years ago, I envisioned her as my successor. I’m excited and proud to see that become reality.’

O’Callahan says in the announcement: ‘As NetApp continues to expand its business, the dynamic regulatory and market conditions we must address underscore the criticality of our legal department to NetApp’s success.’
