Applied Industrial Technologies hires new general counsel

Jon Ploetz joins from Harsco Corporation

NYSE-listed Applied Industrial Technologies has hired Jon Ploetz as vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary.

In his new role, Ploetz heads up the Cleveland, Ohio-based company’s global legal affairs, governance and compliance activities, ESG activities and corporate secretary duties.

Ploetz succeeds Fred Bauer, who retired on January 31, 2023 after spending 30 years with Applied, the last 21 of which as vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary. Bauer continued to be the company’s secretary during the search for his successor and officially left on March 31.

Ploetz has joined Applied from Harsco Corporation, where he had been vice president, assistant general counsel and assistant corporate secretary since 2018. Before that he was assistant general counsel for corporate and securities law.

According to his LinkedIn profile, he previously spent five years as assistant general counsel and assistant secretary at Arch Coal (now Arch Resources). Before that, he spent almost a decade in private practice with Blackwell Sanders and later Patton Boggs.

Neil Schrimsher, president and CEO of Applied, says in a statement: ‘Jon brings more than 20 years of skilled legal expertise in a diverse range of matters, including corporate governance, securities, M&A and more. We look forward to the contributions he will make as we continue to execute our company-specific growth opportunities and long-range strategic plan.

‘We thank Fred for his leadership, commitment and valued role as a trusted adviser over the years.’
