John Stanton to retire at end of 2022 after 16 years with the company

NYSE-listed Under Armour has appointed Mehri Shadman as chief legal officer (CLO) and corporate secretary, effective October 24.

She succeeds John Stanton, the company’s current CLO, who has decided to retire at the end of 2022 after 16 years with Under Armour.

Shadman has worked at Under Armour for nine years and is at present deputy general counsel for corporate and risk and assistant corporate secretary. In that role she oversees the corporate, global ethics and compliance, data privacy and enterprise risk management functions.

Before joining Under Armour, she was an associate in the capital markets practice at law firm Fried Frank Harris Shriver & Jacobson.

Stanton has been executive vice president and general counsel since February 2018 and corporate secretary since 2008. Before that, he was senior vice president and general counsel from March 2013 to January 2018, vice president for corporate governance and compliance from October 2007 to February 2013 and deputy general counsel from February 2006 to September 2007.

Before joining Under Armour, Stanton held legal roles at MBNA Corporation from 1993 to 2005, including senior executive vice president for corporate governance and assistant secretary. He began his legal career at law firm Venable.

Colin Browne, Under Armour’s interim president and CEO, says in a statement: ‘As one of our longest-serving executives, we want to congratulate John on his retirement and thank him for his many contributions to [Under Armour], including building our legal function from a small team following our [IPO] to a world-class global function.’
