NYSE-listed Organon has appointed Kirke Weaver as general counsel and corporate secretary, effective January 1. Weaver was named interim head of the office of general counsel and corporate secretary in July 2022.

Deborah Telman had been Organon’s general counsel before moving to Gilead Sciences in August as executive vice president for corporate affairs, general counsel and corporate secretary, succeeding Brett Pletcher, who retired from Gilead after 17 years with the company.

Before taking on the general counsel and corporate secretary roles on an interim basis, Weaver was senior vice president for commercial, regulatory, securities, employment matters and deputy corporate secretary at Organon. He played a key role in launching Organon as a stand-alone company in June 2021.

Before joining the women’s healthcare company, Weaver spent 18 years at Merck, known as MSD outside the US and Canada, most recently as vice president in the office of general counsel. According to his LinkedIn profile, he previously was an attorney for five years with law firm Drinker Biddle & Reath advising clients on commercial litigation, products liability and white-collar criminal defense.

Kevin Ali, CEO of Organon, says in a statement: ‘Since being named as the interim head of the office of general counsel, Kirke has contributed deep, invaluable expertise to guide Organon, as we continue our journey to become a women’s health leader. He brings excellence to the role, but also exemplifies our values by ensuring, above all else, our company’s commitment to operating with ethics and integrity.’
