Maryanne Lavan places James Comey, who announced his retirement in June
Security giant Lockheed Martin has selected Maryanne Lavan as its new senior vice president and general counsel. She replaces James Comey, who announced his retirement in early June.
Lavan has been with the company since 1990. When announcing her promotion, Lockheed chief executive Bob Stevens commented: ‘Having worked with her for more than a decade, I have great confidence in Maryanne’s ability to provide solid legal advice and to help guide our business decisions. Her experience, adaptability and credibility make her especially well suited to this role in the current business environment.’
Most recently Lavan held the position of vice president of internal audit at the firm. Before that she served as Lockheed’s vice president of ethics and business conduct, where she oversaw the employee training programs.
She also worked directly with the board of directors and continues to do so in her current role. Her tenure at Lockheed Martin has further included a stint in the company’s electronics system division where she held the post of vice president and general counsel and, prior to that, assistant general counsel.
Lavan came to Lockheed from private practice where she worked for a Washington, DC law firm and specialized in government contracts and white-collar crime.
