Busted: Former GC indicted for stealing over $200,000 from labor union

Kevin Clor, a former lawyer for the New York State Thruway workers’ union funneled more than $211,000 after falsifying receipts for legal work and continuing legal education (CLE) courses that he never attended, according to reports. Clor pleaded not guilty to grand larceny and other charges on Wednesday in Manhattan state court.

Clor submitted about 150 forged receipts while working for the labor organization. They included invoices for more than $120,000 in CLE courses at a private high school that does not offer classes for lawyers.

The Manhattan district attorney’s office says Clor also used phony UPS receipts - from a store location that doesn’t actually exist - for alleged copying and mailing services.

Moreover, prosecutors have accused Clor of turning in more than $22,000 in receipts for Thomson Reuters legal materials that he didn't purchase.

‘As general counsel of the New York State Thruway Employees union, the defendant had a duty to protect the rights and financial well-being of the union’s members,’ says District Attorney Cyrus Vance. ‘Instead of representing their best interests, he now stands accused of violating their trust and using his position to enrich himself illegally.’
 
From 2001-2011, the disgraced lawyer worked as general counsel at the union, which represents more than 2,500 Thruway Authority toll collectors, grounds workers, janitors, painters and carpenters.
