Pier 1 hires next CLO

Robert Bostrom succeeds Michael Carter, who retired from the company last year

Pier 1 Imports has recruited Robert Bostrom as executive vice president, chief legal and compliance officer and corporate secretary, effective last week.

Bostrom succeeds Michael Carter, who retired from Pier 1 in September 2018, the company says in a statement.

Bostrom previously worked at Abercrombie & Fitch, where he was senior vice president and special counsel from October 2018, and senior vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary from 2014 to 2018. Abercrombie & Fitch said in an SEC filing last year that Bostrom joined the clothing company in January 2014 to help it through the resolution of a then-pending proxy fight and the adoption of corporate governance reforms accompanying changes to the composition of the board of directors.

He joined Abercrombie from law firm Greenberg Traurig, where he served as co-chair of the financial regulatory and compliance practice. Before that, he was executive vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary of the Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corporation, where he helped direct the company’s legal strategy during the financial crisis.

‘I look forward to partnering with both the leadership team and the board, and leveraging my industry experience,’ Bostrom says in a statement.

‘Bob is an exceptional addition to our senior leadership team,’ says Cheryl Bachelder, interim CEO of Pier 1 Imports, in the announcement. ‘He brings extensive public company legal and governance expertise and strong business acumen to the organization at this important time as we work to restore sales growth and improve profitability.’
