Panasonic hires CCO for North America

Louis Sapirman joins from data and analytics company Dun & Bradstreet

Newark, New Jersey-based Panasonic Corporation of North America has appointed Louis Sapirman as chief compliance officer (CCO).

Sapirman joins Panasonic from data and analytics company Dun & Bradstreet, where he was vice president, associate general counsel, CCO and assistant corporate secretary. In that role, he developed a compliance and ethics program designed to use new technologies and engage the workforce, according to Panasonic. He previously worked in private practice with a focus on employment law.

In his new role, Sapirman leads Panasonic’s ethics and compliance program for North America, including the company’s various divisions and subsidiaries and engaging with matters such as antitrust and competition, anti-corruption, customs and export compliance, data protection and privacy regulations. He will work with Panasonic Avionics Corporation’s compliance team to develop a compliance program across the region.

The previous holder of the North America CCO role was Ling-Ling Nie, who became general counsel and vice president for ethics and compliance at the Georgia Institute of Technology earlier this year, according to her LinkedIn profile.

‘We are pleased to welcome Louis to our team,’ says Jessica Hodkinson, vice president, general counsel and secretary for Panasonic Corporation of North America, in a statement. ‘His strategic thinking and industry recognition for establishing best-in-class compliance programming for global organizations will be critical to ensuring that compliance and ethics continue to be everyone’s job at Panasonic, and that we continue to grow the business with the highest ethical standards.’

Hodkinson leads and manages all aspects of the company’s legal function including compliance, litigation, labor and employment, corporate governance and M&A matters. She reports to chair and CEO Tom Gebhardt.

Hodkinson was appointed general counsel and corporate secretary last year, having joined the company in 2013 as assistant general counsel, then moved into the role of chief counsel for litigation, labor and employment. She was promoted to deputy general counsel in April 2018 and was appointed interim general counsel last summer.
