Guy Carpenter picks next general counsel and CCO

Michael Sevi joined Marsh & McLennan in 2014 as senior compliance officer

Michael Sevi has become general counsel and chief compliance officer (CCO) of Guy Carpenter & Company, Marsh & McLennan’s global risk and reinsurance unit, effective November 6.

In his new role, Sevi reports to Peter Hearn, president and CEO of Guy Carpenter, and Peter Beshar, executive vice president and general counsel of Marsh & McLennan. He now sits on both Guy Carpenter’s executive committee and the senior leadership team of the legal, compliance and public affairs department.

Sevi took over his new role from Michael Borik, who had been general counsel of Guy Carpenter for the past four years and is now moving into a joint business and legal role as managing director and chief counsel of Guy Carpenter’s global capital solutions group.

Sevi joined Marsh & McLennan in 2014 as a senior compliance officer for Marsh. Over the past five years, he has held increasingly senior roles, most recently as CCO of Guy Carpenter and deputy CCO of Marsh & McLennan.

Before joining Marsh & McLennan, he was a litigation associate at Hogan Lovells and DLA Piper. He was also the director of cabinet affairs for Florida governor Rick Scott, working as senior policy adviser on insurance, financial regulation and taxation.

‘Michael’s knowledge of the reinsurance industry, public and private sector experience and track record of delving into our most complex issues make him the ideal legal and compliance leader for Guy Carpenter,’ Hearn says in a statement.
