Alcoa general counsel to retire

Jeffrey Heeter, executive vice president and general counsel of Alcoa Corporation, plans to retire from the company, effective September 1, according to an SEC filing.

Heeter joined Alcoa in 1998 as associate counsel in the company’s legal department in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. During his time with the firm, he has been business unit counsel for several units within Alcoa’s global primary products group, including the former Alcoa world chemicals business.

In his present role, Heeter is responsible for Alcoa’s legal, compliance and governance matters globally. He was also corporate secretary from November 2016 to December 2019. Before the separation in 2016 of Alcoa into Arconic and Alcoa Corporation, Heeter was assistant general counsel. In that role he was responsible for the management and integration of the international legal functions of the company in Russia, China, Europe, Australia and Latin America.

He was group counsel for Alcoa global primary products from 2010 to 2014. From 2008 to 2010, he was general counsel for Alcoa of Australia located in Perth, Australia.

Among other things, Heeter has provided M&A advice including on the divestiture of the global Alcoa world chemicals business and the negotiation of development projects with the governments of Iceland, Ghana and Suriname. Before joining Alcoa, he was a litigation associate in private practice.
