Everest Re appoints general counsel

Ricardo Anzaldua was general counsel at MetLife earlier in his career

NYSE-listed Everest Re Group has recruited Ricardo Anzaldua to become executive vice president and group general counsel, effective June 12. He will report to president and CEO Juan Andrade and will sit on the company’s executive leadership team.

Anzaldua most recently was executive vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary at the Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corporation, where he led the enterprise legal, corporate secretarial and board governance functions. Before that, he was executive vice president and general counsel of MetLife. In that role he oversaw the company’s legal, compliance and government relations functions.

Earlier in his career, he was general counsel for the property and casualty business at The Hartford Financial Services Group, where he guided all strategic, regulatory, commercial and transactional matters across the commercial property and casualty, personal lines property and casualty, group benefits, claims and reinsurance divisions.

Anzaldua’s legal career also includes working at Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton, where he was a partner and chair of the firm’s diversity committee.

Everest is an underwriter of property, casualty and specialty reinsurance and insurance.

Hoffman became interim general counsel earlier this year following the departure of Sanjoy Mukherjee to explore other opportunities. According to his LinkedIn profile, Mukherjee had been with Everest for more than 22 years. His previous experience includes being a reinsurance litigation attorney and senior consultant with Andersen Consulting.
