Philip Morris poaches Kraft GC

Gerhad Pleuhs, Kraft’s current deputy general counsel, will replace Firestone.

Philip Morris International, the tobacco and cigarette company has named Marc Firestone as its new general counsel. Most recently, Firestone was executive vice president, legal affairs and general counsel at Kraft Foods.

David Bernick, the cigarette company’s incumbent general counsel, has resigned.

According to The Lawyer, Firestone is no newcomer to the Richmond, Virginia-based firm. He joined the tobacco company in 1988 and held various senior management positions, including senior vice president and general counsel before his move to Kraft.

At Kraft, he handled legal, corporate secretary and compliance functions – among others – worldwide. During his stint at the food and beverage conglomerate the international antitrust lawyer also oversaw the £11.5 billion takeover of UK confectionery manufacturer Cadbury in 2010.

Gerhad Pleuhs, Kraft’s current deputy general counsel, will replace Firestone.
