Lincoln Financial hires litigation chief

Firm has already hired a new corporate secretary and CCO this year

Lincoln Financial Group has recruited Richard Spenner as senior vice president and head of litigation, effective July 10.

In his new position, Spenner reports directly to Kirkland Hicks, executive vice president and general counsel with the Radnor, Pennsylvania-headquartered firm. Spenner is charged with protecting Lincoln Financial’s interests in all litigation filed by or against the company. He will work closely with the company’s business units to align litigation and pre-litigation strategies with the firm’s goals and to anticipate developing litigation, regulatory and investigative trends, according to a statement from the company.

The firm states that it had $236 billion in assets under management as of March 31, 2017.

Spenner previously served as general counsel for corporate litigation and e-discovery at Willis Towers Watson. A spokesperson for Willis Towers Watson says Amanda Scandlen, based in Richmond, Virginia, and Robert Lapinsky, based in Nashville, Tennessee, have assumed Spenner’s duties. Both have the title head of corporate litigation.

‘I am extremely pleased that Richard has joined the organization,’ Hicks says in a statement. ‘As the head of litigation, he will play a pivotal role here at Lincoln and I am confident he will make a significant contribution. We are fortunate to have a legal professional with such an impressive track record leading this function.’

Spenner’s appointment follows the hiring of Steve Harris as senior vice president and chief ethics and compliance officer in April, as well as the appointment of Andrea Goodrich in January as senior vice president and corporate secretary (CorporateSecretary.com, 1/25).
