Control4 promotes new general counsel

JD Ellis has been with tech company since 2009

Salt Lake City, Utah-based Control4 Corporation has promoted JD Ellis to the position of general counsel.

Greg Bishop, who previously served as general counsel, has decided to leave the company to pursue other endeavors, Control4 says in a statement. Ellis was previously assistant general counsel.

Ellis joined the firm in August 2009, having spent a number of years working in-house with technology and emerging growth companies. Immediately before Control4, he served as legal counsel to Ivanti (formerly LANDesk Software), managing legal affairs through the company’s acquisition by Emerson Electric.

He has advised companies on a wide range of legal matters including M&A, commercial transactions, intellectual property, financing, securities and employment matters.

Control4 provides automation and networking systems for homes and businesses that allow personalized control of lighting, music, video, comfort, security and communications.

‘JD is a proven legal, corporate and strategic adviser to our team,’ says Control4 chair and CEO Martin Plaehn in a statement. ‘With his extensive knowledge of our growing business, his experiences and success in assisting that growth and with our last four acquisitions, his full assumption of the [general counsel] responsibilities will be rapid and seamless.’
