Anika Therapeutics hires first general counsel

David Colleran joins firm from Insulet Corporation

Nasdaq-listed Anika Therapeutics has hired David Colleran to fill the newly created position of executive vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary at the company.

Before joining Bedford, Massachusetts-based Anika, Colleran worked as senior vice president, general counsel, corporate secretary and chief compliance officer at medical device and drug delivery firm Insulet Corporation.

Before that, he was vice president and general counsel at Covidien, a manufacturer of medical devices and supplies that was acquired by Medtronic, and corporate counsel at Ocean Spray Cranberries. Colleran started his career at law firm Choate Hall & Stewart.

In this new role, he will head up Anika’s global legal organization, including handling corporate governance and compliance matters.

Anika is a joint preservation and regenerative therapies company that uses its hyaluronic acid technology platform. According to the company, hyaluronic acid plays an important role in tissue repair in the skin and is present in cartilage and connective tissue.

‘We are delighted to welcome another strong leader to Anika,’ interim CEO Cheryl Blanchard says in a statement. ‘David has a proven record leading corporate legal and governance activities for global medical device and biotech companies, and his extensive experience in [M&A], strategic alliances, intellectual property and regulatory affairs will be invaluable to Anika as we continue to execute on our five-year strategic plan.’
