Vancouver, Washington-based ZoomInfo has hired former regulator Simon McDougall as its first chief compliance officer (CCO).

McDougall most recently was deputy commissioner for the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), the UK’s independent authority charged with upholding information rights and promoting openness by public bodies and data privacy for individuals. During his time with the ICO, McDougall established new technology policy and innovation functions, directed work in areas such as artificial intelligence, adtech and competition, and led the firm’s response to data usage in the UK to address the Covid-19 pandemic.

Before working with the ICO, McDougall built privacy consulting practices at IBM company Promontory and Deloitte, and sat on the board of the International Association of Privacy Professionals. He is based in London and ZoomInfo says in an announcement that it plans to relocate some of its senior executives to the UK capital this year.

In his new role McDougall works on providing transparency about how ZoomInfo collects and uses its professional contact data and upholds individuals’ rights to privacy. He advises on best practices for the company and its customers in terms of privacy. His work involves ‘building trust in how data is used and supporting compliance with the evolving range of privacy regulation around the world, including the [General Data Protection Regulation] in Europe,’ the company states.

ZoomInfo founder and CEO Henry Schuck says in a statement: ‘We’re thrilled to welcome Simon as we continue to advance our leadership position in compliance and privacy, and we look forward to further expanding our team locally.’
