CoStar Group hires general counsel

Gene Boxer was previously with Sirius International Insurance Group

Nasdaq-listed CoStar Group has hired Gene Boxer as general counsel and corporate secretary to oversee the company’s legal and compliance function.

Before joining CoStar Group, Boxer was chief strategy officer and group general counsel of Sirius International Insurance Group from August 2016 until the sale of the company in February 2021.

From January 2011 until September 2015, he was global general counsel of Cushman & Wakefield. In that role he was a member of the company’s executive committee and global management committee, and co-chaired the global enterprise risk management committee. He was a core member of the management team that oversaw the strategic review and sales process that led to the sale of Cushman & Wakefield to DTZ.

Before his time with Cushman & Wakefield, Boxer was a senior member of the restructuring group at American International Group (AIG). In that role he was responsible for multi-functional teams carrying out high-profile worldwide asset dispositions, restructurings and other strategic transactions. Before September 2008, he was a member of AIG’s legal M&A group, overseeing the legal aspects of the company’s strategic transactions in a range of insurance and financial services sectors.

He was previously an attorney with Milbank, where he advised private equity funds and public and private companies in connection with M&A, joint ventures, restructurings, reorganizations, divestitures, securities offerings and other corporate matters.

CoStar Group founder and CEO Andrew Florance says in a statement: ‘We believe Gene’s extensive experience with acquisitions and global management will strengthen our success as we continue to expand our brand and organization internationally.
