Rick Dykhouse, executive vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary with Charter Communications, plans to retire after 17 years with the company.

Dykhouse will continue as Charter’s general counsel during the search for his successor. After that appointment is made, he will stay on as executive counsel to support the transition, reporting to president and CEO Chris Winfrey.

Dykhouse joined Charter in May 2006 as vice president and senior counsel. He led the broadband and cable company’s corporate and securities law team through the period leading up to and following Charter’s restructuring. He became vice president and corporate secretary and was appointed general counsel in 2011, then executive vice president in 2013.

He joined Charter from CNH Global (now CNH Industrial), where he had been senior counsel and assistant secretary. Before CNH, he was an attorney with Conseco (now CNO Financial Group) for almost a decade, most recently as senior vice president for legal.

Winfrey says in a statement: ‘Rick has played a significant role in Charter’s transformation and growth story – including its reorganization in 2009, the acquisitions of Time Warner Cable and Bright House Networks and the largest-ever integration of cable companies. I am grateful for Rick’s leadership, advice and sound judgment over the years and pleased he will continue to assist us throughout the transition to his successor.’

Dykhouse says in the announcement: ‘It has been an honor to lead Charter’s legal department in what has been an amazing transformation of Charter over my years of service. While my legal career has been a rewarding journey, I am looking forward to investing more of my time and energy in the philanthropic work my wife and I have enjoyed and devoting more time to my family.’
