Corporate Secretary's Best Practices Symposium November 14

Join us for a half-day event featuring iPass chairman Peter Clapman sharing thoughts on the governance committee's new duties and how boards can handle mounting shareholder activism

Dear readers,

Everybody wants to be the best. But getting to the top of the class sometimes means taking time out to learn from the very best in the business.

Corporate Secretary is offering corporate secretaries, general counsel and other governance professionals a chance to interact and discuss strategy with some of the very best in the governance industry: current and past nominees of our Corporate Governance Awards. This year we are presenting the Corporate Secretary Best Practices Symposium on November 14, the morning of our Corporate Governance Awards, the premiere event for the recognition of corporate governance best practices in North America.

Headlining our best practices symposium is Peter Clapman, an experienced board member and chairman of the governance committee of iPass, one of the world’s largest commercial WiFi networks. This former Corporate Governance Lifetime Achievement Award winner will give attendees insight on the new responsibilities of the governance committee and how boards need to deal with increased shareholder activism. The symposium also features a nuts-and-bolts session on ‘Improving your proxy statement’, during which current nominees for the best proxy statement award explain the changes they’ve made to their proxy statements that won favor with regulators and shareholders and recognition in this year’s awards competition. We also have a panel discussion on how ethics plays a role in corporate sustainability and CSR policies - another hot topic for governance professionals.

Hosted at the offices of Marsh & McLennan Companies, the Best Practices Symposium offers a fantastic opportunity to gauge whether your company’s efforts at improving its governance are on target or not. Go to our website to request an invitation to the symposium, and come network with the best in corporate governance for 2013.
