AIG names new general counsel after succession change

Patricia Walsh had been announced as taking on the role but decided to stay at Stripe, according to AIG

American International Group (AIG) has named Rose Marie Glazer as general counsel, effective immediately.

Glazer had been interim general counsel since October 1 following the promotion of Lucy Fato from executive vice president, general counsel and global head of communications & government affairs to the newly created position of vice chair.

Patricia Walsh, who had previously been announced as due to join AIG as general counsel on December 1, recently decided to remain at Stripe, according to an AIG announcement. A Stripe spokesperson declined to comment. A request for comment from Walsh was not returned immediately.

Glazer remains an executive vice president reporting to AIG chair and CEO Peter Zaffino. Before taking on the interim general counsel role she had been the company’s chief human resources and diversity officer since January 1, 2022. She was named governance professional of the year (large cap) at Governance Intelligence’s Corporate Governance Awards in 2020.

Zaffino says in a statement: ‘The legal, business and governance expertise that Rose Marie has demonstrated during her tenure, including most recently as interim general counsel, reaffirms that she is uniquely qualified for this leadership position. Rose Marie has played an instrumental role in the significant progress we have made in positioning AIG as a top-performing global insurer. I look forward to continuing to work closely with her.’

Glazer says in the announcement: ‘AIG is at an inflection point in its pursuit of excellence as a top-performing global company, and our talented and dedicated legal, compliance, regulatory and government affairs teams will play an ever-important role in supporting high-quality outcomes. Partnering with our world-class colleagues across AIG’s businesses and operations, we are aligned behind clear priorities and committed to advancing AIG’s progress.’
