Canadian Solar legal chief retires

Jianyi Zhang was also chief compliance officer and corporate secretary

Jianyi Zhang has retired as Nasdaq-listed Canadian Solar’s chief legal officer (CLO), chief compliance officer (CCO) and corporate secretary.

Zhang joined the company in 2016 as senior vice president, general counsel and CCO. He had previously been a senior adviser to Jingtian & Gongcheng Law Firm, Runbo Law Firm, East Associates Law Firm and East & Concord Partners in Beijing, consecutively. Before that, he was a senior assistant general counsel at Walmart Stores and a partner at law firm Troutman Sanders.

At Canadian Solar, Kah Locke Tham has succeeded Zhang as corporate secretary and Jeffrey Kalikow has been appointed interim CCO until a permanent successor is appointed. Tham is also the company’s global corporate controller, and Kalikow is general counsel of the company’s wholly owned subsidiary, Recurrent Energy. Canadian Solar has launched an executive search process to fill the CLO position.

Shawn Qu, chair and CEO of Canadian Solar, says in a statement: ‘I thank Jianyi for his service at Canadian Solar for the past seven years. [His] contributions to the company have been significant and meaningful and I have deeply enjoyed working with him. We wish Jianyi all the best following his retirement. Meanwhile, I am delighted that Kah Locke and Jeffrey have stepped in to support a smooth transition and look forward to their continued contributions.’
