Fox Corp names Campbell Soup general counsel as CLO

Adam Ciongoli will become chief legal and policy officer on December 1

Fox Corporation has appointed Adam Ciongoli as chief legal and policy officer, effective December 1.

In his new role, Ciongoli will report to Lachlan Murdoch, executive chair and CEO, and head up all legal, compliance and regulatory matters as well as oversee government affairs for Fox Corporation.

Ciongoli is moving to Fox Corporation from Campbell Soup Company, where he has been executive vice president, general counsel and chief sustainability, corporate responsibility and governance officer. Before his time with Campbell, he was executive vice president and general counsel of Lincoln Financial Group. He had previously been group general counsel and secretary for Willis Group Holdings and senior vice president and general counsel for Time Warner for Europe.

Before moving to the private sector, Ciongoli was counselor to John Ashcroft when he was US Attorney General, chief counsel to the US Senate Subcommittee on the Constitution, Federalism and Property Rights and a law clerk to US Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito.

Murdoch says in a statement: ‘I am pleased to welcome Adam to the Fox executive leadership team. Adam’s extensive legal experience across various industries and government will be a tremendous asset to our company.’

Succession
Fox Corporation earlier this year announced that chief legal and policy officer Viet Dinh would step down from his position and become a special adviser to the company at the end of the year. Dinh joined Fox in 2018 and helped establish the firm ahead of its 2019 spin-off as a stand-alone public company.

Before joining Fox, Dinh was a partner at Kirkland & Ellis. He had previously founded Bancroft, a US Supreme Court and high-stakes litigation firm, which was acquired by Kirkland. Dinh was a Georgetown University law professor for 20 years and US assistant attorney general for legal policy from 2001 to 2003. He has previously sat on the boards of 21st Century Fox, Revlon, LPL Financial, Scientific Games and MacAndrews & Forbes Worldwide.

Campbell is promoting Charles Brawley to become executive vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary, effective November 30. Brawley joined the company in 2016 and most recently was senior vice president, corporate secretary and deputy general counsel, overseeing Campbell’s legal functions of corporate governance, securities law and commercial contracts.

In his expanded role, he will oversee Campbell’s legal department including government affairs, global security and corporate responsibility and sustainability functions. He will report to president and CEO Mark Clouse and become a member of the company’s operating committee.

Before joining Campbell, Brawley was senior vice president, secretary and associate general counsel of Lincoln Financial Group. According to his Linkedin profile, he was previously vice president and assistant general counsel at PMA Capital Corporation.
