HPE appoints new general counsel

David Antczak is a company veteran

Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) has appointed David Antczak as its new senior vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary, following the recent departure of Rishi Varma to Cargill.

Antczak is named in his new role in HPE’s 2024 proxy statement, filed earlier this month. According to his LinkedIn profile, he has been with the company for almost nine years and before that was with HP for more than four years before the two companies were separated.

Most recently Antczak was head of HPE’s global workplace organization, a role in which he was responsible for the company’s real estate strategy, facilities management, physical security and protective services, government security services and business resilience programs. He had previously been vice president and deputy general counsel and, before that, vice president and associate general counsel for Americas legal-account support.

Antczak’s most recent role at HP was as chief of staff, vice president and associate general counsel. Before moving in-house he was a partner with Drinker Biddle & Reath.

Cargill hired Varma as corporate senior vice president, chief legal and compliance officer, general counsel and corporate secretary, effective January 29.

During his 11 years at HPE, Varma oversaw corporate governance, M&A, commercial contracting, supply-chain matters, litigation, intellectual property and corporate securities. He also played a key role in the legal separation of HPE and HP.

Varma’s tenure as general counsel at HPE saw the team win a series of honors at Governance Intelligence’s Corporate Governance Awards. At the most recent ceremony in November 2023, for example, HPE was named governance team of the year (large cap) and took home the prize for best AGM.
