Northrop Grumman promotes senior attorney to general counsel

Kathryn Simpson has been with the company since 2012

Northrop Grumman Corp has promoted Kathryn Simpson to become corporate vice president and general counsel for Northrop Grumman, effective October 30.

She succeeds Sheila Cheston, who had previously announced her intent to retire on December 1. Simpson reports to Kathy Warden, chair, CEO and president.

Simpson joined the company in 2012 as vice president and deputy general counsel. In that role she led teams of lawyers providing support on matters involving international transactions and trade compliance, environmental, health & safety, real estate, intellectual property, labor & employment, privacy and cyber-issues.

She was most recently vice president, associate general counsel and sector counsel for Northrop Grumman’s Mission System sector, which provides information products for defense and intelligence customers.

Simpson joined Northrop Grumman from Raytheon (now RTX), where she was vice president for corporate transactions and board governance within the firm’s law department. She joined Raytheon in 1995 and held positions including general counsel of Raytheon International and general counsel of Raytheon Commercial Electronics.

Before her tenure at Raytheon, Simpson was an attorney adviser at the US International Trade Commission and practiced corporate and international transactional law at law firm Foley & Lardner.

Simpson says in a LinkedIn post: ‘I’m happy to share that I’m starting a new position as corporate vice president and general counsel at Northrop Grumman. Looking forward to working with Kathy Warden and her leadership team and leading our team of talented and dedicated lawyers.’
