Philip Morris appoints company lawyer as general counsel

Yann Guérin has been with the company since 2006

Philip Morris International (PMI) has appointed company veteran Yann Guérin as senior vice president and general counsel.

Since joining the company in 2006, Guérin has held several positions within PMI’s legal and compliance department, including vice president and associate general counsel for the Middle East and Africa and PMI duty-free from 2018 to 2019, vice president and associate general counsel for Southern Asia from 2019 to 2021 and vice president and associate general counsel for corporate since 2021. In this last role, he was lead deal counsel on PMI’s acquisition of Swedish Match.

Before joining PMI, Guérin spent five years as an attorney with law firm Skadden Arps Slate Meagher & Flom.

Guérin succeeds Suzanne Rich Folsom, who joined PMI in 2020. Folsom is retiring from the general counsel role to become senior strategic adviser to PMI CEO Jacek Olczak.

Folsom was previously with law firm Manatt Phelps & Phillips in Washington, DC, where she co-chaired the investigations, compliance and strategic response group and was a member of the government & regulatory and cyber & privacy groups. Before that, she was general counsel, chief compliance officer and senior vice president for government affairs and global public policy at United States Steel Corporation.
