After four years as deputy general counsel, Pace is set to head up the healthcare provider's legal department
Healthcare provider Amerigroup Corporation has promoted Nicholas Pace to the position of executive vice president, general counsel and secretary. Pace takes over the role from Stanley Baldwin, who has announced his retirement and will officially step down at the end of the year. In the interim, Baldwin remains with Amerigroup as executive vice president, chief legal officer and secretary emeritus.
Pace has been with Amerigroup since 2006, when he joined the company as its senior vice president and deputy general counsel. During his tenure, his responsibilities have grown to include corporate governance, corporate finance anM&A, as well as regulatory compliance and reporting.
Looking back on Pace’s time at Amerigroup, company chairman and CEO James Carlson says in a statement: ‘Nick Pace joined Amerigroup four years ago, and in that time he has demonstrated astute judgment and his abilities as a trusted leader of the highest ethics and character.’
Not forgetting Pace’s predecessor, Carlson adds: ‘Just as we are fortunate to have such a stellar contributor assume this role, I cannot say enough about the service of our counsel and good friend, Stan Baldwin.’
Before joining Amerigroup, Pace held the post of assistant general counsel for the publicly traded auto retailer CarMax, where his duties focused largely on corporate governance and M&A, as well as corporate finance.
Pace received his undergraduate degree from Miami University in Ohio, where he double-majored in accountancy and finance. He graduated with honors from the University of Richmond TC Williams School of Law. In addition to his JD, Pace has an MBA from the University of Richmond E Clairborne Robbins School of Business.
