XPO hires legal chief

Kurt Rogers will join logistics company next month

NYSE-listed XPO Logistics has hired Kurt Rogers to become the company’s chief legal officer (CLO) and corporate secretary, effective February 3.

Rogers will join Greenwich, Connecticut-based XPO from medical waste management company Stericycle, where he had served as executive vice president and general counsel since 2017. Before his time at Stericycle, he was CLO of cloud communications firm Vonage for seven years. Earlier in his career, he was a partner at Bingham McCutchen and at Latham & Watkins, focusing his practice on intellectual property and litigation.

XPO, which provides transportation and logistics services, is also promoting Karlis Kirsis to senior vice president and European CLO, also effective February 3. Kirsis joined the company in 2016 and has led XPO’s legal matters as corporate counsel since 2017. Before moving to the in-house position, he counseled companies on strategic transactions at law firm Skadden Arps Slate Meagher & Flom.

‘Kurt is a results-oriented leader with a talent for aligning legal functions with strategic and organizational goals,’ says XPO chair and CEO Bradley Jacobs in a statement. ‘He brings extensive expertise in areas important to our strategy, including M&A, intellectual property and international law, and will be supported by Karlis’ team in Europe. We have a deep bench of transatlantic talent in place.’
