MoneyGram appoints general counsel and secretary

Robert Villaseñor joined company in July 2018 as associate general counsel and assistant secretary

Dallas-based MoneyGram International has appointed Robert Villaseñor as general counsel and corporate secretary.

Villaseñor joined MoneyGram in July 2018 as associate general counsel and assistant secretary, a role in which he oversaw the corporate securities and M&A legal function for the company. He had served as interim general counsel and corporate secretary since October 2019, when Francis Henry left to join CoreLogic as chief legal officer.

In his new permanent role, Villaseñor oversees global legal matters for the money transfer and peer-to-peer company and will communicate with regulators and lawmakers on matters that impact MoneyGram and the industry.

Villaseñor has more than 20 years’ experience of advising public companies on legal matters such as public reporting, M&A and commercial issues. He has worked in private practice and at global public companies including Starbucks, where he advised on issues related to public reporting, strategic investments and transactional matters.

‘Robert has proven to be a valuable asset to MoneyGram throughout the recent evolution of our capital structure and as we continue to execute on our digital transformation,’ says Alex Holmes, MoneyGram chairman and CEO, in a statement. ‘His knowledge of our business combined with his prior experience, including working at consumer-centric global brands like Starbucks, will help ensure MoneyGram is well positioned as we continue to evolve our company.’
